Description
Lake Kissimmee is a large body of water in Central Florida that is vital to the southward flow to the Florida Everglades. Legend has it that a brave Seminole women shouted "kish-a-mee" meaning "no kill" to soldiers pursuing Indians in the area during a massacre. The soldiers allowed the remaining Seminoles to escape to the wild lands along the Kissimmee River south of here. The Whooping Crane, an endangered species has been introduced here, with an entire population in the U.S. of perhaps 400. I took this somewhat surreal photograph just after sunset.
