Description
Saint Marks National Wildlife Refuge, along Florida's Gulf Coast, is a natural marvel, with lakes, salt marshes, freshwater swamps, and pine forests. Established in 1931 for wintering migratory birds, it is one of the nation's oldest refuges. Over 300 species of birds can be found here, including 19 species of ducks, as well as falcons, hawks and shorebirds. The refuge is home to 52 species of mammals including the Florida Black Bear, as well as 40 species of amphibians and 65 species of reptiles. Loggerhead sea turtles and manatees can be found offshore. I was attracted to the soft texture of the marsh grass in this composition.
