Description
This was taken at the mouth of Shingle Creek where it flows into Lake Tohopekaliga. Shingle Creek forms the headwaters of the Florida Everglades. It was an interesting day in my tiny boat as my girlfriend and I did not see an approaching thunderstorm. As we exited the creek toward the boat ramp, large bolts of lightning struck the water. One strike was so close that a spark jumped from the handle of the motor to my hand. We had to find refuge along the creek on the bank. Thunder exploded around us for an hour as lightning continued to strike within less than 100 yards. The boat filled to the top with water. Shaken from the storm, I was relieved that the camera was safe in a waterproof container.
