Description
A pine forest shares a border with a cypress swamp in Split Oak Forest. The park is named for a 200 year old oak that split under it's own weight and survived, creating a multitude of trees sharing the same trunk. Pine flatwoods, hardwood hammocks, with ancient oaks, and cypress swamps are distributed throughout the property. The park is currently managed to protect the habitat of the Gopher Tortoise, a threatened species in Florida. Split Oak Mitigation Park encompasses Orange and Osceola Counties in Central Florida.
