Description
Leather Ferns are large tropical ferns with fronds as tall as 12 feet. They require a great deal of moisture but cannot withstand long periods of submersion. They are somewhat salt tolerant, often growing among mangroves. They require a very rich organic medium which the swamp provides. They are more common in South Florida than other parts of the state. Shingle Creek is the headwaters of the Florida Everglades and is located in Orange and Osceola counties.
