Description
Yellow tiger swallowtails come out to feast late in October in Florida. Their beauty never ceases to amaze me. Having such large wings they will often glide like a bird riding the thermals. The wingspan of the butterflies range from 3 to 5.5 inches, with females being the larger of the two. There is also a dark morph version of the female that mimics the poisonous Pipevine Swallowtail to protect it from predators. Photo taken in Charles Bronson State Park, Seminole County,Fl.
