Description
Shingle Creek's name is derived from the cypress trees along it's bank. In the late 1800's the trees were used to make wood shingles. Seminole Indians first occupied the area until settlers arrived in the early 1820's. A trading post was established a few miles from here. Over the course of a few decades, a thriving community developed along the creek's banks. The Shingle Creek community peaked in the early 1900's and included a train depot, church , and post office just south of here in Osceola County. The creek is the headwaters to the Florida Everglades.
