Description
More than three dozen springs can be found on the Santa Fe River. I came upon this scene traveling in my tiny boat. The beautiful river with its' abundant wildlife has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years. In the 1600's, Franciscan monks from Spain established missions across North Florida. One of the missions, Santa Fe de Teleco, gave the river its' name. A section of the river actually disappears underground for 3 miles and emerges later at the River Rise Preserve.
