Description
Turnstones migrate from the high Arctic to southern regions including Florida. This one is in breeding plumage. They have strong necks and bills, allowing them to turn stones (hence the name) and seaweed in search of food. Sebastian Inlet is in Brevard and Indian River Counties and is famous for it's fishing pier and surfing. The inlet is not a natural feature. Attempts were made since the late 1800's to open a channel from the Sebastian River to the Atlantic. They did not succeed until 1924.
