Description
Barnacles are related to crabs and lobsters. Barnacles have cement glands that form on the base of their antennae, and live upside down attached by the head. They have feathery appendages which wave plankton into the shell for consumption. I found this piling encrusted with barnacles on Santa Rosa Island, in the Florida Panhandle, after a hurricane.
