Description
Exploring the trails at Silver Glen Spring, I come across some slow spring boils in the forest. Sunfish are enjoying the outflows of the boils. This is Jody's Spring named for the spring described by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings in her book "The Yearling" I carefully balance on the edge of the pool to capture the fish's recreation . At the time this photo was taken one could experience the feeling of being in "Florida quicksand". Upon entering the pool you could easily sink up to your chest and perhaps over your head in a mixture of cool spring water and white sand. It was customary to grab an overhead branch or tree root for safety. These pools are now enclosed behind a fence. The 65 million gallons of waters that flow from the two spring vents daily run nearly one mile to Lake George. The natural setting of the recreation area is predominantly upland forests of oak, cedar, and pines.
