The Rocks are south of St. Augustine. They are composed of Anastasia Limestone which formed along the coast of Florida some 2.5 million years ago. It overlays along the Atlantic Coastal Ridge From St. John's County to Palm Beach County. Here in Flagler County, and in Blowing Rocks Preserve in Palm Beach County, the outcroppings are exposed along the beach. It is composed of interbedded sand and coquina rock. This rock was used by the Spanish in the 1600's to build Castillo de San Marcos, a famous fort in Saint Augustine. It proved to be very effective in absorbing the damage from cannon fire.

Chris was born in southern Delaware in 1960. As a teenager he began studying maps of Florida and dreamed of exploring the state and it’s natural treasures. In the early 1980’s he moved to Central Florida. During his travels throughout the state he discovered the beauty of it’s swamps, prairies, springs, rivers and lakes. This led to an interest in photography and it’s ability to document his adventures. He also developed an interest in astronomy. He studied the work of Ansel Adams and his “zone” system as well as the works of the his colleges in the “f 64 club” of art photographers.
