My love affair of photography was sparked by a fascination with our night skies - the stars, planets circled by moons, storms and cloud bands on Jupiter and Saturn, comets, and our home star, the sun.
Using astronomy programs on my Commodore 64, I was able to plot the paths of the Milky Way in summer. The program showed me a time of perfect alignment - sunrise, the brightest points of our Milky Way and the progression of a recently discovered comet about to reach its peak of glory to observers on Earth. Taking my tent and cameras to a dark rural part of Osceola County, I photographed the comet Hale-Bopp at perihelion on April 1st, 1997.

About Chris Kusik
Chris was born in southern Delaware in 1960. As a teenager he began studying maps of Florida and dreamed of exploring the state and it’s natural treasures. In the early 1980’s he moved to Central Florida. During his travels throughout the state he discovered the beauty of it’s swamps, prairies, springs, rivers and lakes. This led to an interest in photography and it’s ability to document his adventures. He also developed an interest in astronomy. He studied the work of Ansel Adams and his “zone” system as well as the works of the his colleges in the “f 64 club” of art photographers.
