Artist's Description

I spotted this raccoon while climbing a dune in Lake Marion Creek Wildlife Management Area. The oak tree appears to been struck by lightning. It was about 100 feet above the canopy and would have easily been a target during one of our summer thunderstorms. Raccoons are typically 16 to 28 inches long and weigh between 8 and 20 pounds. Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur which insulates against cold weather. Two of the raccoon's most distinctive features are its extremely dexterous front paws and its facial mask. Raccoons are noted for their intelligence, with studies showing that they are able to remember the solution to tasks for up to three years.Although captive raccoons have been known to live over 20 years, their average life expectancy in the wild is only two to three years. Lake Marion Creek W.M.A. is in Polk County and is part of the Lake Wales Ridge.

It became apparent that researching the accomplishments of painters would also be beneficial. Chris began to establish his own style, a fusion of art and...
