Artist's Description

Pond cypress form living sculptures along the lakefront. It's a beautiful day as I guide my tiny boat along the lake's shoreline. Previously called Lake Wilmington the lake was renamed Blue Cypress for the reflections of the trees and sky on the water. I felt lucky this day as photography can be a difficult task on the lake. With an average depth of only eight feet and a circumference of 21 miles the water is often turbulent. As the Atlantic Coast is only 25 miles from here, the east coast sea breeze contributes to choppy conditions. The area is a popular nesting area for osprey, and one can find dozens of nests around the perimeter. It is abundant with the fish and wildlife the birds need to sustain their offspring. Blue Cypress Lake is the headwaters to the St. Johns River. It is located in Indian River County, Florida.

About Chris Kusik

Chris Kusik

Chris was born in southern Delaware in 1960. As a teenager he began studying maps of Florida and dreamed of exploring the state and it’s natural treasures. He studied the work of Ansel Adams and his “zone” system as well as the works of the his colleges in the “f 64 club” of art photographers. It became apparent that researching the accomplishments of painters would also be beneficial. Chris began to establish his own style, a fusion of art and...
