Description
Parker Slough in the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area has many interesting twists and turns as you hike along the banks, from thick, lush tropical areas to open areas of oak hammock. Epiphytes such as the resurrection fern and the endangered cardinal airplant bromeliad as well as spanish moss can be found here. The waters are stained with tannic acid from decomposing plant material.Dry prairie surrounding the waterway, feeds it with rainfall from summer storms. Alligators navigate the slough when water levels are high, searching for food. This scene unfolded as I came around another turn in the slough.
