Description
A thunderstorm off a barrier island on Florida's east coast is held just offshore from the west coast sea breeze. Storms in Florida often form on the point of collision between the east and west coast winds. I enjoyed this light show for over an hour. The storm was perhaps a mile or two away. Melbourne Shores is an unincorporated community in Brevard County, Florida. It is located on a barrier island southeast of the city of Melbourne and east of the town of Grant-Valkaria. It is just north of the unincorporated community of Floridana Beach. It is in the northern most section of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, a part of the United States National Wildlife Refuge System, located along a twenty mile section of coastline from Melbourne Beach to Wabasso Beach, Florida along Florida State Road A1A. The 900 acre refuge was established in 1991, to protect the Loggerhead and Green sea turtles.
