Description
This four foot kid was flawless. He wasn't very happy to see me. He was wary of my presence, but allowed some portrait shots before I went on my way. I think their vision is geared toward the front of the snout. I have often approached gators from the side, getting within 15 feet or so before being noticed. I came across this alligator in the Maritime Hammock Sanctuary in Melbourne Shores. This aptly-named sanctuary protects the largest, intact maritime hammock in Brevard County. Bird populations on the property include Anhinga, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Tricolored Heron, Roseate Spoonbill and White Ibis. Other wildlife species observed include Giant Land Crab, Northern River Otter, and Bobcat. The Maritime Hammock Sanctuary is in the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in Melbourne Beach, Florida.
