Description
The Lake Wales Ridge is a unique ecosystem found only in Florida. It consists of ancient sand dunes created two million years ago when central and south Florida were underwater. It contains many animals and plants that are endangered or threatened species. Common species are also found in the deserts of the southwest.

Thanks for the comment Kevin. However my research indicates that it is a Sand Pine with an irregular crown that lives primarily on dunes and sand hills. (This dune was about 75-100 feet high.) The Slash Pine has a more rounded crown and inhabits flatwoods. A quick check in Audubon and Wikipedia confirmed this.
