Description
This series of images are some of the most beautiful, detailed images I have every encountered in all my years of photography. Digital photography, now a dominate force in imaging has yet to come close to the quality of large format photography. Glass plates in particular, were exceptional in image sharpness as the flat surface offered a tack sharp focus that has yet to be replicated today. It's hard to imagine that these were taken over 100 years ago, around 1905. In 1902 Charles B. King and Jonathan Maxwell created the Northern Manufacturing Company, which went on to be the parent company of Studebaker and grandparent company of Chrysler. Maxwell would later become a well-known name as a line of automobiles would bear his name. King would not experience that same level of fame, though he is remembered as the first person to drive an internal combustion car on the streets of Detroit.
