Description
Soft Shells need warm sand to incubate their eggs. This one was over a mile from
water, a long way from home for an aquatic species. She is in a scrub area which is equivalent to a desert in Florida. Softshell turtles are extremely agile in water and on land. The females can grow rather large with a length of 30" and weight of 44 lbs. or more. Photograph taken in the Hal Scott Preserve in Orange County, Florida.
