Description
This is another Florida tourist. I found him while staying at the Lake Marian Fish Camp in Osceola County. I like to travel to the area in the fall for observing the heavens with a telescope. The sky is free from light pollution and the gas clouds from the milky way can easily be observed with the naked eye. The Mediterranean Gecko is a small, nocturnal gecko common to the Mediterranean and spread to many parts of the world. They are nocturnal and have a length of about 6 inches. They emit a distinctive, high-pitched call somewhat like a squeak or a chirp, interacting with other geckos. They have superb night vision, having over 300 times the sensitivity to light than humans. It is uncertain how the Mediterranean gecko first made its way to the United States. It was first reported in Key West, Florida 1915.
