Description
As I explored the forest I came across this peaceful view. Split Oak Forest is a 2,000 acre park located in Orange and Osceola Counties. It is currently managed to preserve the the habitat of the gopher tortoise, a threatened species in Florida, along with the other plants and animals that inhabit this diverse area. The park was named for an oak in the forest which is over 200 years old. It survived after being split down the middle and appears to have eight trees growing from a single trunk. The area was formerly a cattle ranch.
