Description
Cuban tree frogs were brought to Florida in the 1800's to control the insect population. Cubans are the largest tree frog of North America, growing to a length of about 5 inches . A nocturnal tree dwelling frog, they are known to eat almost anything that will fit in their mouths including snails, spiders, insects, other frogs, snakes, lizards, small crustaceans, and hatchling birds in their nest. They can change colors depending on their temperature and environment.Cuban tree frogs are known to inhabit a variety of ecosystems, including estuaries, lowland forests and swamps. How the Cuban tree frogs progressed colonization into the mainland of Florida is believed to be by use of Florida State Road A1A construction during the 1940s. I find them to have a lot of character.
