Description
This alligator was in Parker Slough which runs through the dry prairie. They find wide areas in the slough to nest during the rainy season. In winter the slough dries up, the wide areas with water have "gator holes", where the young fend for themselves.

Fortunately, she was unaware of my presence. They find wide areas in the slough to nest during the rainy season. In winter the slough dries up, the wide areas with water have "gator holes", where the young fend for themselves. During droughts larger alligators dig out pools in marshy areas, benefitting other aquatic species. Dry prairie dominates the landscape on both sides of the slough. When the summer rains come, the prairie's dense soil allows most of the water to feed the slough. Transportation is once again available for the reptiles. This is a beautiful land with many paradoxes. The harshness of the prairie and the lush beauty of the tree lines coexist side by side. I learn more each time I visit.
