I much prefer film over digital when it comes to black and white images. The look of a silver print from film is difficult to compete with when done properly. I still reference Ansel Adams' Photography Series of books when working up a black and white film scan as many of his techniques can still be applied today in the digital world. Black and white is all about texture, tones and geometry. It is also a departure from reality. Many of my black and white compositions simply would not work in color.
